Serendipity and the Eastern Tent Caterpillar

. . . . .

While driving around this past weekend I saw so many webby looking nests on short bushes along the roadside. I wondered what I the world they were.

Later, once we were back home and in our garage I spotted a pretty little caterpillar making its way across the floor collecting sawdust as it moved along. So I did what I do … took its portrait. Then watched it continue out the front and into the grass and on with its way.

Well, now today I wanted to post the name of this caterpillar along with the image that you see above. So I did what most anyone would do and began searching images of caterpillars. Not only did I get the name to post with the picture, but also an answer. An answer to the question that I was wondering about earlier the same day.

These pretty little critters are “Eastern Tent Caterpillars.” They are what are in those webby nests along the roadside that I saw and wondered about.

*Serendipity
…is the effect by which one accidentally discovers something fortunate, especially while looking for something else entirely.

Yes, indeed and sometimes they’ll kill a tree. Wonderful capture.
